“Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.”
John 13:3-5 NIV
I don’t like to bet but I’m guessing that half of us didn’t bother to finish reading this scripture and those of us who did just thought “oh this is the story of Jesus washing the disciples’ feet. I know this one.”

Today I received a certain understanding to this scripture that I have never experienced before. Read the verse 3 again.
“Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;”
John 13:3 NIV

Clearly Jesus knows the kind of power that he wields. And what did he do with the fact that he knew how powerful he was?
“so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.”
John 13:4-5 NIV
That’s crazy!!! He didn’t make them create a special chair for him or bring only the rich and influential to him. He washed his disciples’ feet because he knew how powerful he was.
I mean if I was the president of an organization, the first thought that comes to mind is to probably have a special office and a secretary that turns “undeserving” people at the door. I wouldn’t think of probably dining with the common floor. How much more actually washing their feet. That’s like the lowest and most ridiculous thing that you could do.

And that’s just the president of a human institution so how much more the power of God. Bro, I would strike anyone that tries to speak against me.
We’re the body of Christ and heirs with him, we possess the abilities giving to him. What should we be doing?
Service. Humble. Lowly. Service.
The true and honest knowledge of who we are in Christ can only produce within as humility and a certain type of unexplainable humility.

When you know how powerful you are, there’s no need to receive any validation from humans. You don’t care.
People think humility involves denying or downplaying who you are. “Oh I’m not that rich”. “Oh I’m not that important”. No! You know you are but you let that knowledge drive you to serve more.
I really pray that I can learn that type of humility and I pray same for other Christians. I mean think about it, I don’t think that “Christian” slave masters would have done the things they did if they knew that kind of humility.

Good reminder.
The more you know and understand that you are because of God, the more humble you become.
